One thing about the German Shepherd breed is that they are quite a large dog.  A male German Shepherd will grow to an approximate height of 24 – 26 inches (60 – 65 centimetres).  A female German Shepherd will grow to an approximate height of 22 – 24 inches (55 – 60cm).  Both the male and female German Shepherd will weigh approximately 77 – 85 pounds (35 – 40 kilograms).  Due to their large size, the German Shepherd needs to live in a place with a little bit of space – ideally a home with a large yard.  However, if you do live in an apartment or small home you can still own a German Shepherd but you will need to exercise them more frequently.

Does the German Shepherd need lots of exercise?

The most important thing you need to know about the German Shepherd breed is that they love to exercise.  Therefore if you are contemplating owning a German Shepherd you firstly need to decide if you will be able to commit to a regular exercise schedule.  You can exercise your German Shepherd in a number of ways including going on runs or walks, going to the beach or even playing games at a local park.
